Georgia and I were drawn to Italy and Greece by a pull we couldn't quite explain. It was an instinctive, deep-seated feeling that only grew stronger once we touched down. Throughout the trip, we were struck by a profound sense of "Deja Vu"—a quiet, persistent feeling that we had walked these ancient streets before.
Our Italian odyssey began with a flight from Frankfurt that landed us in the heat of Naples. From there, we bypassed the chaos of the city, busing directly to the harbor to catch a high-speed ferry to Sorrento. It was there, standing on the street overlooking the water, that we experienced the first true magic of the trip.
Arching beautifully over the harbor was a brilliant rainbow. Its right side seemed to touch down on the exact ferry pulling into the dock to take us across the bay. We didn’t just see it as a break in the weather; we considered that rainbow a profound good sign—a "Green Light" from the universe that our 40-day adventure was meant to be.
The ferry ride delivered us to the stunning Sorrento coast. We could see our hotel just a short walk from the pier. The check-in was seamless and warm, but we quickly faced our first "Old World" technical challenge: the elevator. It was a tiny, vintage box that barely fit the two of us and our luggage. It was a far cry from the spacious, high-tech world of Sony, but it was the perfect "Next Shock" to remind us we were finally in Italy. Click on the down arrow to allow you to watch each video.
